advent day three

Advent Day THREE~

Only God gives inward peace,
And I depend on Him.
God alone is the mighty rock that keeps me safe,
And He is the fortress where I feel secure.

Psalm 62 v. 5,6

Christmas is one of the times of year where we are confronted most blatantly with what this world has to offer– happiness that money can buy.
The biggest and brightest Christmas decorations are in the shopping streets and malls.
Fliers land on our mats with more insistence than Christmas cards, displaying their wares and attempting to convince us that their product is our key to a perfect Christmas.
And if we should become weary of all this, the travel companies are hard at work too persuading us that if we need a break, they have the answer– a spa holiday perhaps, a cruise or a city break?

God has called us to live in this world– not many of us are hermits or monks, appealing though the idea may seem on some December days!
But He calls us too to find a different answer to the search for meaning, purpose and happiness.
We will find peace not by Dreamin’ of a White Christmas, but by depending on God.
He is our fortress when we feel under attack.

In the busiest, sparkliest, noisiest places you visit today, remember this–
God is your inner peace.

O God, we seek security and deliverance
not in money or theft,
not in human ambition or malice,
not in our own ability or power,
but in you, the only God,
our rock and our salvation.

God is my rock and my fortress
