It’s the weekend!

My soul magnifies the Lord
And my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.

He has brought down the powerful from their thrones,
And lifted up the lowly;
He has filled the hungry with good things,
And sent the rich away empty.

                           Luke 1: 46, 47, 52, 53

Before Jesus was even born, Mary was singing of how God has always confounded the logic of the world.

As Jesus comes closer to the end of his life, it is not surprising that his words, his actions….and most of all, his death….will continue to turn upside down the expected order of things.

Those who thought they were powerful, powerful enough to plot, to accuse, and to crucify, will have their places of power exposed as a house of cards.

Those who are rich are sent away.

In the kingdom, it is the lowly who are lifted up, and the hungry who are filled.

This weekend, ask God to show you what good things He has for you.

Blessed are you who are poor,
For yours is the kingdom of God.
Blesses are you who are hungry now,
For you will be filled.
Blessed are you who weep now
For you will laugh.

                           Luke 6: 20,21

Sometimes reading self help books or well-meaning blogs can make us feel that adopting a regime, a mantra or a new habit will lead to measurable results in a steadily increasing way. advent day two

Advent Day TWO~ Every one of you, hide among the rocks and in the ground, Because the LORD is fearsome, marvelous, and glorious. When the LORD comes, everyone who is proud will be made humble, And the LORD alone will be honoured. The LORD All-Powerful has chosen a day When those who are proud and conceited will be put down Isaiah 2: 10-12 What are we waiting for? Its good to remind ourselves  of who God is. What words would you use to describe God? Glorious?...Marvellous?...Fearsome? Try to spend some time today in a place where you can see something of God’s glory– it might be at the sea, under a starry night sky, watching a sunset or down on your hands and knees with the insects. God created this world we live in. He controls it, orders it, sustains it. He breathed life into our bodies– and He will decide when life leaves us. This is the LORD we worship. advent day fifteen

Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord! Unnumbered blessings give my spirit voice; Tender to me the promise of his word; In God my Saviour shall my heart rejoice. Do not be afraid! When Gabriel appeared to Mary, she was confused and frightened. He had to reassure her by reminding her how much she meant to God: “You’re beautiful with God’s beauty. Beautiful inside and out! God be with you.” And then he told her of her part in God’s plan…. We can’t begin to guess what her first reactions were. Whether it even made sense to her. She could hardly talk it through with Joseph– so she went off to visit Elizabeth, the only one who might begin to understand, to help her make sense of what was happening to her.
